President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today commemorated the fourth martyrdom anniversary of Syed Ali Gilani, the founding leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference. They lauded his lifelong dedication to advocating for the rights of those in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

President Zardari emphasized Gilani”s unwavering commitment to the right to self-determination, highlighting his resilience against Indian oppression. He reaffirmed Pakistan”s pledge to champion the Kashmiri cause on global platforms, asserting that Indian suppression would not quell the spirit of the Kashmiri population. He demanded the granting of self-determination to the people of Kashmir in accordance with UN resolutions.

Prime Minister Sharif extolled Gilani”s enduring affection for Pakistan as a testament to the profound spiritual and emotional connection between Pakistan and the Kashmiri people. He noted the lasting impact of Gilani”s declaration, “We are Pakistanis. Pakistan is ours,” which continues to resonate within Kashmir and challenge the occupying forces.

Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON, Engineer Amir Muqam, also honored Gilani, describing him as the “heartbeat” of the Kashmiri people and a prominent figure in the freedom movement. He praised Gilani”s steadfast refusal to accept Indian authority, emphasizing his unwavering stance on self-determination. Muqam stated that Gilani’s sacrifices and resolve continue to inspire Kashmiris.

Muqam reiterated the Pakistani government”s commitment to providing political, diplomatic, and moral support to the Kashmiris” pursuit of self-determination. He echoed the enduring power of Gilani”s slogan among Kashmiri youth and expressed confidence in its potential to overcome Indian occupation.

Finally, Muqam urged the United Nations and the international community to address the human rights abuses in IIOJK and ensure the Kashmiri people”s fundamental rights are protected.
