The parliamentary delegation of Pakistan, led by Chairman Pakistan People’s Party and ex-Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, briefed the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the UN on the escalating situation in South Asia following India’s military actions and accusations against Pakistan post-Pahalgam attack.
Addressing the OIC Permanent Representatives, Bhutto firmly rejected India’s efforts to associate Pakistan with the Pahalgam incident without credible evidence. He emphasized that the blame was used to justify cross-border strikes targeting civilians and infrastructure.
Bhutto voiced serious concerns over India”s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, describing it as an act of weaponizing water and breaching international obligations. He insisted that such actions cannot become routine, stressing that India”s aggression has made the region less secure.
The former Foreign Minister thanked OIC members for their mediation efforts and highlighted dialogue and diplomacy as the only path to peace. He reaffirmed Pakistan”s commitment to diplomacy and called for the treaty”s restoration and dialogue with India, with a focus on the Jammu and Kashmir issue.
Bhutto praised the OIC for its support for Jammu and Kashmir”s people and urged continued backing for their self-determination rights as per UN resolutions.
The OIC representatives appreciated Pakistan”s briefing and reiterated their solidarity with Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir. They expressed concern over the security situation and emphasized the importance of upholding international law and treaties, including the Indus Waters Treaty.
The OIC countries welcomed Pakistan”s dedication to resolving disputes through dialogue in line with UN resolutions.
