The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Judicial Academy (KPJA) conducted a workshop in partnership with the Society for Human Rights and Prisoners Aid (SHARP) to address pressing issues related to refugee law and child protection. Gathering 25 judges from across the province, the event aimed to deepen understanding of refugee rights and the specific needs of homeless children.
The workshop commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome from Mr. Jehanzeb Shinwari, Director-General of KPJA. SHARP introduced the attendees to the program. Experts from UNHCR, the Commissionerate for Afghan Refugees (CAR), and KPJA steered sessions on significant topics like the 1951 Refugee Convention, Afghan refugee issues in Pakistan, and identity documentation procedures. CAR representatives elaborated on recent government policies regarding refugee management.
The concluding segment of the workshop focused on child protection laws, specifically the Child Protection Act 2010 and the Juvenile Justice System Act 2018, addressing the challenges faced by homeless children. The event wrapped up with an open dialogue, certificate distribution, a group photo, and commemorative presentations, underscoring KPJA”s dedication to equipping the judiciary to handle legal and human rights issues effectively.
