Pakistan”s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, urged the international community to take decisive action to safeguard civilians caught in prolonged conflicts, emphasizing the dire humanitarian situations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and Gaza.
Speaking at the United Nations Security Council Open Debate , Ahmad highlighted the ongoing suffering of over 75 years endured by the people of Jammu and Kashmir under Indian occupation.
He accused Indian forces of systemic violence, resulting in over 100,000 deaths. Ahmad condemned the Indian military”s actions, including extrajudicial killings and demographic alterations, which contravene international law. He also pointed to recent missile strikes by India on Pakistani territory, resulting in civilian casualties, and labeled these as violations of Pakistan”s sovereignty.
Turning to Gaza, Ahmad described the mass displacement and fatalities as a humanitarian catastrophe. He backed a Security Council resolution, proposed by Algeria, to address the crisis in Gaza. Ahmad called for international adherence to humanitarian law to safeguard civilians and urged for the protection of humanitarian workers and UN personnel. Additionally, he highlighted the need for frameworks to tackle AIdriven disinformation and advocated for diplomatic measures to resolve conflicts peacefully.
