Pakistan, UK Hold Key Talks On Arms Control, Disarmament

Pakistan and the United Kingdom held crucial discussions on arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation during the seventh round of their bilateral dialogue in London on July 16, 2025. The meeting, according to a Foreign Office statement released on Thursday, saw Ambassador Stephen Lillie CMG, Director of Defence and International Security at the FCDO, and Ambassador Tahir Andrabi, Additional Foreign Secretary for ACDIS at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, lead their respective delegations.

The two nations delved into a comprehensive range of security matters, encompassing global and regional security dynamics, strategic equilibrium, arms control measures, disarmament initiatives, and non-proliferation efforts.

Discussions also centered on the workings of the UN General Assembly’s First Committee, the Conference on Disarmament, and various international agreements like the BTWC, CWC, and CCW. Furthermore, they explored multilateral export control systems and the ramifications of emerging technologies. Cooperation in peaceful nuclear technology applications was also on the agenda.

The dialogue, initiated in 2015, serves as a cornerstone of the wider Pakistan-UK relationship. Both nations affirmed the importance of sustained discussions in strengthening mutual comprehension and advancing collaboration, agreeing to hold the next round of consultations in Islamabad in 2026.
