Pakistan has once again secured its position on the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), reaffirming its influential role in global efforts to prevent the use of chemical arms.
According to an official report today, the country was re-elected for the 2026-2028 term during the 30th Session of the Conference of States Parties, which convened in The Hague.
The 41-member Executive Council serves as the principal policy-making organ of the OPCW. It is tasked with overseeing the effective implementation of and compliance with the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).
Beyond its oversight duties, the council also supports the scientific and economic development of its Member States through the peaceful uses of chemistry. An active participant in the organization, Pakistan has consistently held a seat on the Executive Council since its ratification of the CWC in 1997.
The nation has contributed constructively towards the fulfillment of the convention”s objectives and regularly hosts routine OPCW inspections at its relevant facilities. This re-election is seen as a testament to Pakistan’s positive role within the organization and underscores the confidence of member nations in the country”s ability to provide effective leadership to the global watchdog.
