Islamabad: Pakistan has rejected India's illegal attempt to hold the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance and warned against the weaponization of water. This was stated by Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, while speaking at the United Nations Security Council High-Level Open Debate on "Natural Resource Governance: The Foundation of Peace, Security and Prosperity".

According to Radio Pakistan, the Ambassador underscored that the Indus Waters Treaty remains valid, binding, and fully in force, as reaffirmed by the August 2025 Award of the Court of Arbitration. He urged the UN Security Council to remain vigilant against the exploitation or weaponization of natural resources and to fully utilize preventive diplomacy, peaceful dispute settlement, sanctions regimes, and monitoring mechanisms where such actions endanger peace.

In response to remarks by the Indian Representative at the Security Council High-Level Open Debate, First Secretary Ansar Shah stated that India's terrorist proxies, the TTP, BLA, and Majeed Brigade, have killed thousands of civilians and law enforcement personnel, including women and children, on Pakistani soil. He further alleged that India's involvement in extraterritorial executions, including in North America, is also well-known, asserting that India is not a victim but a sponsor of terrorism.

The First Secretary added that India is also a perpetrator of state terrorism, particularly in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, where the population is being denied its right to self-determination in gross violation of numerous resolutions of the Security Council.
