Pakistan Leads UN Security Council Debates On Multilateralism, Middle East

Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar arrived in the United States to lead Pakistan’s presidency of the UN Security Council (UNSC) during crucial high-level discussions in New York and to undertake engagements in Washington.

His primary focus will be chairing an open debate on bolstering international peace and security through multilateral cooperation and peaceful conflict resolution. The session aims to explore avenues for strengthening global collaboration and enhancing diplomatic efforts and mediation in resolving disputes peacefully.

Mr. Dar will also preside over the Security Council”s quarterly debate on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question. Further showcasing Pakistan”s commitment to international cooperation, the Deputy PM will chair a high-level briefing focused on improving collaboration between the UN and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in maintaining global peace.

Underscoring Pakistan”s dedication to the Palestinian cause, Mr. Dar will participate in a high-level conference on the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian question and the implementation of a two-state solution. His itinerary in New York also includes bilateral meetings with counterparts and senior UN officials.
