Ambassador Misbah Khar, Advisor to the Chairman of the Senate, met with Thai Ambassador to Pakistan, Mr. Rongvudhi Virabutr, at the Thai Embassy in Islamabad to discuss the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference (ISC) and women”s empowerment. Mr. Tariq Bin Waheed, Senior Director General (Protocol) of the Senate, accompanied Ambassador Khar.

Ambassador Khar briefed Mr. Virabutr on the ISC, a new global assembly of 45 parliamentary speakers established to enhance legislative collaboration. She informed him that Pakistan”s Chairman Senate, Mr. Yousuf Raza Gillani, was recently elected as the ISC”s first President. A formal invitation was extended to the Speaker of the Thai Parliament to participate in the inaugural ISC session, themed ‘Peace, Security and Development,’ scheduled for November 11-12, 2025, in Islamabad.

The representatives also addressed the significance of female leadership and empowerment. Ambassador Khar underscored Pakistan”s dedication to advancing women in leadership positions, emphasizing the ISC”s potential to elevate women”s voices in global affairs. She stressed the importance of encouraging female participation in the workforce and societal contribution. Mr. Virabutr expressed his backing for initiatives that promote female advancement, and Ambassador Khar pledged Pakistan”s full collaboration towards this mutual goal.

Ambassador Khar advocated leveraging global forums like the ISC to highlight the voices of oppressed women and provide them with sustainable opportunities. She noted that the Senate of Pakistan has enacted legislation to further women’s empowerment and ensure their substantial involvement in national progress.

The Thai Ambassador welcomed the ISC initiative and committed to promoting women”s leadership. Ambassador Khar affirmed her complete support for these efforts and her willingness to work closely with Thailand on initiatives that bolster parliamentary cooperation and gender equality.
