Pakistan and Denmark have pledged to enhance global trade competitiveness by modernizing Pakistan’s maritime infrastructure, improving port operations, and introducing sustainable practices in the sector.

The commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting between Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and Danish Ambassador Jakob Linulf in Islamabad. Discussions focused on port upgrades, logistics improvements, and the adoption of green shipping and renewable energy solutions.

Both countries underscored the significance of workforce development and cultural linkages, agreeing to fast-track the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding signed last year. Under the MoU, Denmark has committed to invest around 2 billion dollars in Pakistan’s maritime sector.

It was shared that Vincent Clerc, CEO of Danish shipping company A.P. Moller-Maersk, is expected to visit Pakistan this week for meetings with the Prime Minister and other high-level officials.

The Maritime Affairs Minister mentioned that efforts are underway to introduce green maritime technologies aimed at cutting emissions and enhancing environmental performance at ports.

He noted that training programs will be launched to equip the maritime workforce with skills in managing eco-friendly vessels and port facilities.

Ambassador Linulf reiterated Denmark’s intention to support Pakistan’s maritime advancement and emphasized deepening cooperation in trade, investment, workforce training, and cultural exchange.
