OGDCL Makes New Oil Discovery in Sindh

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), the primary operator of the TAY Exploration License with a 95% working interest, along with its partner, Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), holding the remaining 5%, has announced a significant oil discovery at the Chakar-1 exploratory well in Tando Allah Yar, Sindh.

The Chakar-1 well, initiated on June 2, 2025, reached a depth of 1,926 meters in the Upper Shale of the Lower Goru Formation. Following analysis of wireline and reservoir evaluation logs, a drill stem test in the B-Sand yielded a production of 275 barrels of oil per day through a 32/64″ choke at a wellhead flowing pressure of 400 psi.

Formation testing also indicated the presence of oil in the Lower Ranikot formation. A second test using an electrical submersible pump is underway to further assess its potential.

This discovery, the thirteenth in the TAY Exploration License, highlights the joint venture”s commitment to exploring and developing the block”s hydrocarbon resources. These positive findings reinforce the area”s geological promise and support further exploration efforts to define its resource base. OGDCL reiterated its dedication to strengthening Pakistan’s energy security through ongoing exploration and development activities.
