As Pakistan grapples with catastrophic flooding, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq opened Monday’s parliamentary session by acknowledging the commencement of Rabi-ul-Awwal, marking the 1,500th anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad’s ? birth. The Speaker noted the devastating impact of torrential rains, cloudbursts, and the release of water from India into eastern rivers, leading to extensive destruction and loss of life in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Karachi.

While the National Assembly Secretariat had arranged celebratory events for Eid Milad-un-Nabi ?, including illuminations, exhibitions, and gatherings, Sadiq announced that commemorations at Parliament House would be subdued and respectful, given the national tragedy. He warned that the “super flood” is progressing towards Sindh, further escalating the crisis.

Sadiq emphasized the importance of finding strength in the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad ? during this difficult period. He appealed to legislators to dedicate Rabi-ul-Awwal to humanitarian efforts and urged political leaders to transcend their disagreements, emphasizing the crucial need for national unity and cohesion. He called upon the nation to unite and support those affected by the calamity.
