Pakistan commemorated the ninth death anniversary of renowned philanthropist and humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi today.

Born on February 28, 1928, in Gujarat, British India, Edhi dedicated his life to serving humanity, initiating his welfare work in Pakistan in 1951. He established a globally recognized volunteer ambulance network, along with shelters for the destitute, animal rescue centers, and orphanages throughout the nation. His tireless efforts earned him prestigious international and national accolades, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award, the Lenin Peace Prize, and Nishan-e-Imtiaz.

The Edhi Foundation extended its compassionate reach beyond Pakistan, providing aid to those in need in Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Iran, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Croatia, Indonesia, and the United States. Edhi passed away on this day in 2016 at the age of 88 in Karachi.
