A nationwide survey reveals that a significant majority of Pakistanis (80%) have trust in their local butchers to provide quality meat.

Conducted by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, the study shows that 44% of respondents expressed “complete trust,” while another 36% indicated “some trust.” This widespread confidence in local meat vendors underscores the enduring strength of traditional marketplaces in the country.

However, the survey also highlighted concerns about food safety and hygiene practices. A minority of participants (17%) admitted to having “very little” or “no trust at all” in their area”s butchers. This finding suggests the importance of implementing and enforcing stricter regulations within the meat industry.

The survey queried 991 adult men and women from both urban and rural locations across all four provinces. Data was collected via telephone interviews (CATI) between August 3 and August 19, 2025. Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, an affiliate of Gallup International, stated that the margin of error is estimated to be ± 2-3 percent at a 95% confidence level. The research was published by the Gilani Research Foundation.
