Meeting regarding eradication of dengue virus was held

Karachi: A meeting regarding the eradication of dengue virus was held in the Sindh Secretariat under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Secretary Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput on Thursday. Administrator Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Chief Commissioner Islamabad Captain (retd) Muhammad Usman, Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Iqbal Memon, Secretary Local Government Syed Najam Ahmad Shah, Secretary General Administration Hanif Channa and officers of Vector Borne Diseases of heath department participated in the meeting.

The meeting was briefed on the spread of dengue virus in the province. It was told in the meeting that 4031 cases of dengue virus have been reported in the province so far in this year, while 9 people have died due to dengue virus, while 6373 cases of dengue have been reported in the year 2021. In the meeting, Chief Commissioner Islamabad Captain (retd) Muhammad Usman shared his experience of dengue control in Punjab province and informed about the mechanism of dengue virus eradication in Punjab.

In the meeting, Sindh Chief Secretary Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput said that to make the existing program to eliminate dengue in Sindh more effective, daily dengue reports will be taken from all public and private hospitals and laboratories and all dengue cases will be recorded on one dashboard. “Tagging of the Dengue patients will be done after which spraying will be done in the houses of these patients and 20 surrounding houses to eliminate dengue” he said. The Chief Secretary Sindh Further directed all Deputy Commissioners to hold meetings with the concerned departments and submit daily report. He further said that entomologists will be recruited in the province and a campaign will be started for public awareness.

In the meeting, Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab said that yesterday 201 cases of Dengue Virus were reported in Karachi. The health department has started spraying and fumigation to destroy the larvae in dengue-affected areas. He further said that at present 30 vehicle of KMC are spraying in all districts of Karachi to eliminate dengue.

He further said that the Government will also reduce the amount of dengue virus test which will be implemented though Sindh Healthcare Commission. It was decided in the meeting that dengue experts from Punjab will train to the doctors and the staff of dengue program of Sindh. It was decided in the meeting that Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Chief Commissioner Islamabad Captain (retd) Muhammad Usman and dengue program officers will inspect the ongoing campaign in Karachi, in the light of which further orders will be issued.
