Maryam Nawaz Demands Comprehensive Plan for Assistance of Wheat Farmers and Increase in Production

To alleviate the financial burden on wheat farmers, the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has taken a significant step to strengthen the agriculture sector. Under her leadership, the Punjab government has prepared a comprehensive plan designed to increase wheat production and ensure the availability of necessary resources.

In a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, emphasis was placed on reducing agricultural input costs, especially before the upcoming wheat sowing season. The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of timely wheat sowing for better yield and stressed the need to ensure the proper availability of fertilizers, particularly DAP, for farmers.

A key feature of the meeting was the agreement on the proposal to offer interest-free loans of 100 billion rupees to reduce financial pressure on farmers. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at benefiting small-scale wheat farmers in the province.

In addition to the provision of loans, a total subsidy of 63 billion rupees has been provided to farmers over the past two months. This financial support is provided under the Chief Minister’s Wheat Support Program, which includes a notable subsidy of 13 billion rupees specifically to assist wheat farmers.

The benefits of the Kisan Card scheme were also highlighted, which provided farmers in Punjab with access to interest-free loans totaling 50 billion rupees. This initiative has significantly increased the use of fertilizers, leading to improved agricultural productivity.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif reiterated that wheat farmers would not have to face challenges alone and promised strong governmental support to sustain their efforts.
