LCA appeals CJs of Pakistan and Sindh to order judicial inquiry

Karachi: Divisional President, Larkana Chamber of Agriculture, Syed Sirajul Oliya Rashdi has strongly urged to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari that more than a month has passed, millions of flood victims are starving under the open sky helpless, thirsty, hunger and facing epidemics.

This he said in a statement issued here on Tuesday. He said that the officers created NDMA and PDMA are busy stealing billions of rupees of aid received from all over the world in the name of flood victims. He said that hundreds of people have died and the survivors are also close to death and there is no permanent rescue operation for the victims from their side.

From hundreds of villages surrounded by water, Navy and Pakistan Army personnel are reaching them by conducting rescue operations but the civil administration hasn’t provided them with food, tents, drinking water and treatment facilities. Due to severe heat, sun and lack of food and drinking water, people are dying, he added.

He said that according to rough estimates, 2.7 people have been infected with malaria and dengue, seven lac with skin diseases, and more than 800 people have become victims of dog bites and poisonous snakes. He said that ironically, in Larkana division, due to the failure to close the breaches and cuts made in the canals, dykes for a month have not yet been filled and water is still coming from those breaches and cuts.

He said that due to not taking measures, epidemic diseases are spreading fast in district Qambar-Shahdadkot with further destruction. If this situation persists, UC Mirpur and Gaji Khuhawar of Warah Tehsil will be further destroyed. He said that in many areas, even now, 8 to 12 feet of flood water is standing. He said that due to the lack of drainage, the fertile lands will turn into lakes of dirty water.

There is fear of a famine situation in the future, Siraj Rashidi said, while demanding projects from the government of Sindh, that to immediately restore the land routes to urban areas including agricultural lands, the cuts in waterlogging nullah should be closed by the FWO experts on an emergency basis, so that the floodwaters spreading destruction in a wide area should be stopped and water could be discharged through MNV into the Indus River.

The LCA president strongly appealed to the Chief Justice, Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Chief Justice, Sindh High Court to conduct a judicial inquiry against the conspiratorial elements who destroyed Sindh under a planning and the WAPDA SCARP and the Sindh Irrigation Department. FWO experts should be called to drain the flood water. Wheat seed and DAP fertilizer be sought from China as aid and should be distributed among the farmers.

He said that instead of distributing the wheat seed and fertilizer to the affected people, it went to the warehouses of influential landowners and big businessmen, and the devastated flood victims continued to suffer from the floods. By establishing settlements, they should be provided with food, drinking water, treatment facilities for mosquito bites, malaria and other epidemic diseases.

In the recent flood, the RBOD and 90-year-old FP Bund, which is 178 km long, were destroyed by the flood water from Balochistan. It should be made stronger with heavy machinery before the coming monsoon so that such destruction and human tragedies can be avoided in the future for which FWO and Chinese experts should be called and consulted.
