The Larkana District Council has approved a surplus budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, anticipating a positive balance of Rs. 1,398,418. The budget, approved in a session chaired by Chairman Ajaz Ahmed Laghari, estimates expected revenue of Rs. 578,471,392, with an additional Rs. 155,009,811 carried over from the previous year, bringing the total estimated revenue to Rs. 733,481,203.

Non-development expenditures are projected to reach Rs. 540,582,785, while Rs. 191,500,000 has been allocated for development projects, resulting in total estimated expenditures exceeding Rs. 732,000,000. This financial plan received unanimous support from all council members.

Addressing journalists, Chairman Laghari stated that the council’s primary source of income is the OZT allocation, mainly used for retired employees’ salaries, pensions, and other retirement benefits. He emphasized the absence of any outstanding financial liabilities.

Reviewing the previous year, Laghari mentioned that tenders worth Rs. 170 million were issued for development schemes in 46 union councils. Steps were taken to provide essential resources like solar power units, water pumps, sewing machines, water purification systems, assistive devices for the disabled, and bicycles, which will continue in the current financial plan. He praised the efforts of President Asif Ali Zardari and MPA Faryal Talpur in securing Rs. 300 million for ongoing work on the District Council Complex and rural development programs, including funding for Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment plants.

This year, each union council will be provided with a loader for sanitation through their district representatives. Under an employment program modeled after the PPP’s employment platform, unemployed youth will also be provided with auto-rickshaws or Chingchi rickshaws with the assistance of council members.
