KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Kamran Tessori was sworn in as the 34th Governor of Sindh in a simple but a dignified ceremony held at the Governor’s House in Karachi on Monday.
The Chief Justice of Sindh High Court, Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh administered the oath of the office of Governor Sindh to Mr Tessori. Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani, Provincial Ministers Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh, Saeed Ghani, Principal Secretary Governor Sindh Dr Syed Saifur Rehman, Additional IGP Karachi Javed Alam and other officers also participated in the ceremony.
MQM-P leader Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, former Mayor Waseem Akhtar, Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab, Member Provincial Assembly Khawaja Izharul Hasan, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Waqar Mehdi also participated. The dignitaries present at the ceremony congratulated Mr Tessori on assuming the office of Sindh Governor.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Tessori said he would try his best to fulfill the trust he has been entrusted with and would take everyone along to fulfill the responsibilities besides raising his voice for resolving the problems of the province on every forum.
It may be noted that President Dr Arif Alvi had yesterday approved the appointment of Mr Tessori as the new Governor of Sindh under sub-clause one of Article 101 of the Constitution. The post of governorship fell vacant since resignation tendered by by PTI leader Imram Ismael. Later, Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Khan was appointed as acting Governor Sindh who too quit, paving the way for Mr Tessori to become new Sindh Governor.
