KARACHI: The K-Electric on Wednesday submitted a petition to the National Electric Regulatory Power Authority (NEPRA) for a Rs3.47 per unit decrease in electricity bills on account of fuel cost adjustment for the month of July.
According to the spokesperson for the K-Electric, monthly hearing of the petition will be held on August 31 as per the NEPRA rules. “The benefit of the global decrease in fuel prices will be passed on to the consumers in electricity bills,” the K-Electric spokesperson pledged.
“The price of electricity, purchased by the Central Power Purchasing Agency-Guarantee (CPPA-G) in July 2022, has witnessed a 31 per cent decrease as compared to June 2022,” he added. “Moreover, the price of Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) has also reduced by 16 per cent,” he stated.
“A petition for a Rs14.53 per unit rise in electricity prices has also been submitted on account of fuel cost adjustment for the months from April to June, 2022,” he declared. “Under the uniform tariff policy, the increases resulting from quarterly adjustments do not generally affect the consumers,” he claimed. “However, the final decision is taken by the Ministry of Energy after the approval of NEPRA,” he concluded.
