In a significant judicial development, Justice Sardar Liaqat Hussain has taken oath as the Acting Chief Justice of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The notable ceremony took place at the Jammu and Kashmir House in Islamabad, where AJK President Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry administered the oath.
The oath-taking ceremony was attended by a prominent gathering, including AJK Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq and the outgoing Chief Justice, Justice Sadaqat Hussain Raja. Other distinguished attendees included High Court judges such as Justice Syed Shahid Bahar, Justice Sardar Muhammad Ejaz Khan, and Justice Chaudhry Khalid Rasheed. Eminent figures from the political and legal arenas, including former AJK President and Prime Minister Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, former Senior Judge of the Supreme Court Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mughal, and former Acting Chief Justice Azhar Saleem Babar, were also present.
The event was further graced by the presence of former judges of the Shariat Court and High Court, government ministers, presidential advisors, and key members of the legal community, including the Vice Chairman of the AJK Bar Council and the presidents of the Supreme Court and High Court Bar Associations. The ceremony highlighted the strong participation of the legal community, underscoring the significance of this judicial transition.
Law Secretary Muhammad Sajjad marked the occasion by reading the official notification of Justice Hussain’s appointment, signifying the beginning of a new chapter in AJK’s judicial leadership.
