KARACHI: The Joint Action Committee (JAC), Karachi on Monday vehemently denounced the utilization of highly offensive and derogatory language directed at a female member within the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. Such reprehensible behaviour not only undermines the dignity of the individual but sends a chilling message that any woman can be subjected to similar treatment with impunity.

“In adherence to democratic and parliamentary norms, it is imperative that ethical decorum prevails within legislative chambers.” The JAC expressed deep regret over the lack of intervention from conscientious members to quell this tide of misconduct, highlighting a distressing void of accountability within the assembly.

The people entrust those occupying such esteemed positions with the responsibility of setting exemplary standards. As advocates for human rights and women’s rights, we categorically reject any form of disrespect or infringement upon the rights of individuals, regardless of gender or identity, the statement said.

“We demand a formal apology to be issued to the aggrieved woman and the people of Pakistan, emphasizing the imperative for political parties to enforce stringent measures compelling their members to uphold the rights and dignity of women.”

The Joint Action Committee Karachi remains steadfast in its commitment to fostering a society where respect and equality prevail, urging all stakeholders to join in safeguarding the principles of dignity and justice.
