The Jammu and Kashmir Joint Action Committee announced on Tuesday that a sit-in will be held at the Line of Control in support of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Yasin Malik. The move comes in response to the threat of a possible death sentence for Malik in India.

As an expression of solidarity, simultaneous rallies will be held in Tattapani and Chakothi. Yasin Malik’s 12-year-old daughter, Razia Sultana, will participate in the Poonch sector march starting from Rawalakot.

The protest also includes demonstrations across Azad Kashmir before November 5, aimed at protesting the possible death sentence for Yasin Malik during a hearing in India on November 10. According to the schedule, three hundred thousand people from Mirpur and Poonch divisions will gather in Tattapani and one hundred thousand people from Muzaffarabad division will gather in the Chakothi sector for a four-day protest.

On a global level, sit-ins will be held outside the United Nations headquarters, international human rights organizations, and Indian embassies. The second phase will include a major call for a million march. The Joint Action Committee has appealed to citizens to be ready for this protest, expecting a large turnout similar to the Rawalakot march on October 4, which was held on a large scale in support of Malik.
