International Community Must Continue to Support Implementation of Colombian Peace Agreement: Pakistan

Pakistan has reiterated its call for continued international support for the 2016 Colombian Peace Agreement and the UN’s role in its implementation. Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, emphasized the Agreement’s significance as a blueprint for transforming conflict into development.

Addressing a Security Council meeting, Ambassador Ahmad termed the Agreement critical for addressing the root causes of the protracted conflict and building sustainable peace for all Colombians. He commended the Colombian government and stakeholders for their commitment to the peace process despite various obstacles.

The Pakistani representative reaffirmed the country’s support for the peace efforts and encouraged all parties to maintain their commitment to the Agreement’s full implementation. He called dialogue the only path to peace and appealed to armed groups to renounce violence.

Ambassador Ahmad further urged these groups to engage constructively and renew their commitment to unconditional talks, respecting the Constitution and national law.
