International Centre predicts Eid in Saudi Arabia on April 20

ISLAMABAD:The Shawwal moon in Saudi Arabia is unlikely to be seen on April 20 (Thursday), according to information released on Tuesday by the International Astronomy Centre, it emerged Tuesday.

The astronomy center’s director, Muhammad Shaukat, predicts that this year’s Eidul Fitr will fall on Saturday, April 22. The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has meantime advised its residents to observe the moon on Thursday with their naked eyes and notify the closest court so that their testimony can be recorded.

Depending on the moon sightings, the holy month of Ramadan lasts either 29 or 30 days. Saudi Arabia will observe Eid on Friday, April 21, if the moon is seen on Thursday.

The end of the month-long fasting in Ramadan is commemorated by Muslims around the world on the holy festival known as Eid ul Fitr.

Eid begins with early morning prayers and Muslims of all ages dress in traditional attire to celebrate. After fasting for 29 or 30 days, families come together to eat their first communal meal. Family and friends join together to enjoy delectable meals, with desserts taking center stage.
