Imran Khan is behind 9th May violent protests: Interior Minister

ISLAMABAD:Federal Minister for Interior Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Sunday said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had planned the events of May 9 in advance and anyone engaged in violence would be brought to justice.

Addressing a news conference along with Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb in Islamabad, he said Imran Khan is a rabble-rouser and his party should be banned. “Our government already has pointed out that Imran Khan is pursuing politics of hatred.”

Rana Sanaullah said that it is evidence of Imran’s culpability that he has not condemned the events of May 9 till now. They urged the public to minus Imran Khan from politics using their power of the vote. “If Imran is not defeated by the power of the vote, he will destroy the country,” he hinted.

He regretted that the fighter jet of MM Alam was also set on fire which is a pride of Pakistan. They also ransacked Jinnah House, he added. The interior minister claimed that even the objects used in the riots were built in the same place.

“The targets had been advised in advance in case Imran Khan got arrested,” he said, adding that all those responsible would be brought within the law’s grasp.

Every time the PTI takes the streets, the same 100-200 people are found to be involved in violent activities. This means that they have been trained to do this. Imran has trained them and they are his investment,” the minister said.

“These are terrorists … they were trained for eight months and they were told to go and set fire to specified locations,” the interior minister claimed, adding that the government had concrete proof that would be presented in a court of law.

He mentioned that the only solution to the PTI was banning it as a political identity but added that this would be a big decision.

Rana Sanaullah said that the chief justice has ‘weakened’ his moral authority by ruling Imran Khan’s arrest illegal. He also mentioned that the acquittal was part of the same chain as the ‘minority opinion’ of three judges being imposed as the court’s decision in the election delay case.

On Saturday, Maulana had announced a sit-in in front of the Supreme Court saying he wanted to remind the court that it was ‘mother of law’ not ‘mother-in-law’.

Interior Minister said that corruption of Rs 60b was unearthed in the Al-Qadir Trust case. He said Imran Khan also deceived his cabinet. He said Imran Khan utilized the corrupt money and method to develop a so-called trust by looting the nation’s wealth mentioning only Imran Khan and his wife’s names were included in the trust.

The minister added Imran Khan was not cooperating with investigation authorities regarding the plunder he did highlighting despite corruption, the chief justice welcomed the PTI chief graciously.

He said huge numbers of people are coming to participate in the protest tomorrow. He said, due to a huge number of expected protestors, PDM Chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman was requested to hold the protest outside of the red zone. To a query, he claimed that the protest outside the apex court is a decision made by the Pakistan Democratic Movement and not by the government.
