ISLAMABAD:The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday ordered immediate release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s (PTI) politicians, Shehryar Afridi and Shandana Gulzar, after suspending their detention orders.
Shehryar Afridi and Shandana Gulzar were held in custody by the Islamabad Police under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance.
Both the politicians were held by the law enforcement for their alleged involvement in the May 9 riots, which were triggered after the arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan earlier this year.
The IHC allowed Afridi to go his home in Islamabad, however, directed restricted Gulzar’s movement within Islamabad.
Justice Babar Sattar said that if anything happened to Gulzar, the Islamabad Inspector General and chief commissioner will be responsible. Meanwhile, the court adjourned further hearing of the case for fortnight.
