Over 3,700 Karachi Port Trust (KPT) employees will soon benefit from a new health insurance scheme, announced Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry on Friday. The minister revealed the initiative during a pre-board briefing delivered virtually by acting KPT chairman, Rear Admiral Ateeq-ur-Rehman. The program aims to improve healthcare access for all KPT workers through a network of top-tier hospitals selected via a competitive process.

The minister emphasized the importance of a robust health system that ensures timely, consistent, and enhanced medical services for all personnel. He stated that employee health and welfare are paramount. This latest effort complements the recently implemented annual medical examination program, initiated under the minister’s guidance. This program, now expanded to include all staff members at Izhar Abbasi Hospital, prioritizes early diagnosis and disease prevention.

Minister Chaudhry explained that proactively identifying health issues allows for quicker intervention, minimizing long-term expenses. He underscored staff well-being as a collective obligation. Furthermore, KPT recently held a free medical camp on Bhit Island, catering to children with neuropsychological conditions and extending support to underserved communities near the port.

This comprehensive healthcare approach represents a significant advancement in embedding preventative healthcare within the Karachi Port Trust, showcasing the minister’s commitment to protecting the health and respect of each employee.
