Govt To Make Electric Vehicles Accessible To Public

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the creation of a comprehensive national strategy to make electric vehicles (EVs) affordable for the general populace.

He presided over a conference in Islamabad today, dedicated to expanding EV utilization nationwide. Sharif stated that promoting EVs will conserve billions of dollars in fuel imports, protect the environment, and stimulate domestic manufacturing. He declared that the Federal Government will give electric motorcycles to high-achieving students from all educational boards, including the Federal Board.

To address unemployment, Sharif said the administration will prioritize providing electric rickshaws and loaders to jobless citizens. He also instructed officials to develop a robust ecosystem for EV production and servicing domestically. To maintain transparency, he directed that the entire EV distribution and governmental assistance process undergo independent audits. He emphasized that low-income individuals should be given precedence in the government”s EV promotion and support program.

Sharif also advocated for a public awareness initiative to educate citizens about the government”s EV acquisition support program. He highlighted that all electric motorcycles, rickshaws, and loaders provided under the scheme must adhere to rigorous quality and safety standards.

The conference received a briefing on the present status of Pakistan”s EV sector and government efforts to enhance public access to EVs. Attendees learned that the administration is striving to facilitate the acquisition of electric motorcycles, rickshaws, and loaders through inexpensive, easy financing. Over 100,000 electric motorcycles and over 3,000 rickshaws and loaders will be offered to the public under reasonable and accessible terms with government backing.

The gathering was told that top-performing intermediate-level students across all educational boards, including the Federal Board, will be granted free electric motorcycles under the initiative. A 25 percent quota has been designated for women, with provincial quotas assigned proportionally to population. The Prime Minister mandated a quota increase for Balochistan to 10 percent.

It was also announced that four new battery production firms are commencing operations in Pakistan due to this endeavor, generating business prospects and jobs. The Prime Minister ordered the immediate initiation of the scheme based on the presented proposals.
