Governor Pressures Chief Minister For Kp Assembly Session On Reserved Seats

Following a directive from the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor’s office has formally urged the Chief Minister’s office to convene a provincial assembly session.

A communication from Governor’s Principal Secretary, Zubair Arshad, to the Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary, highlighted the ECP’s mandate for the session. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) publicized the development on X (formerly Twitter). The correspondence emphasizes the ECP’s written instructions to hold the assembly session for administering oaths to members elected to reserved seats, as per a Supreme Court of Pakistan ruling.

Citing Rule 36(1)(a) and Schedule V of the KP Government Rules of Business 1985, the letter stipulates that the request for convening the assembly session must be routed to the Governor via the Chief Minister.

To ensure compliance with the ECP and Supreme Court’s directives, the letter further emphasizes the immediate convening of the provincial assembly session, as mandated under Article 109(a) of the Constitution.
