Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have forged a powerful new alliance to combat transnational corruption, signing a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday in Doha, Qatar.
The historic pact was formalized on the sidelines of the 11th Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). The document was signed by NAB Chairman, Lt. Gen (R) Nazir Ahmed, and the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, Mr. Olanipekun Olukoyode.
This agreement establishes a formal partnership aimed at enhancing the joint capabilities of both nations in the fight against financial crimes. The collaboration signifies the mutual commitment of Pakistan and Nigeria to upholding transparency, accountability, and the rule of law, in line with their international obligations under the UNCAC.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Chairman NAB Lt. Gen (R) Nazir Ahmed stated that the partnership would significantly strengthen the investigative and prosecutorial capacities of both institutions. “Together, NAB and EFCC will work to ensure that justice prevails across borders,” he remarked, underscoring the global scope of the initiative.
The accord is expected to bolster the worldwide fight against corruption by facilitating crucial information sharing, joint capacitybuilding exercises, and closer operational coordination between the two premier antigraft agencies. This collaboration marks a significant step towards reinforcing international efforts to counter illicit financial activities.
