Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani on Thursday underscored the critical importance of higher education and technological advancement in securing a prosperous future for Pakistan.
He was addressing the 29th Convocation of the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) held in Swabi. Gillani stated that Pakistan is navigating the landscape of the Fifth Industrial Revolution, where technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and the Internet of Things are not merely futuristic concepts but are actively transforming industries and economies worldwide.
He highlighted that Pakistan’s digital economy is making notable progress, with IT exports projected to hit USD 5 billion this year. ‘Our future now depends less on traditional resources and more on the strength of our intellectual and human capital,’ he said, stressing that higher education is the foundation of national development.
Addressing the graduating students, Gillani urged the youth to embrace modern skill sets, take leadership roles on a global scale, and contribute to building a sustainable and secure future for the country. He noted that as the education system continues to evolve with new learning models, it is vital for young people to adapt and harness emerging technologies.
The Senate Chairman also paid homage to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto for her unwavering commitment to education, recalling her belief that investing in education is an investment in the nation’s future.

The ceremony was attended by students, their families, academic heads, faculty members, and distinguished guests.
