Acting President Syed Yusuf Raza Gillani has emphasized the urgent need for significant agricultural reforms to support Pakistan”s textile sector, which he identified as the “backbone” of the nation”s exports. During a high-level discussion, he stressed that improvements in seed quality, irrigation systems, and agricultural research are essential for the country”s economic vitality.

According to an official information today, the Acting President’s statements came during a visit to the Mahmood Group of Textile Mills in the Multan Industrial Estate. He asserted that while textiles are crucial for foreign trade, cotton remains the foundational element of the industry. Supporting farmers and strengthening the agricultural domain, he noted, would directly boost the textile sector.

During the tour, the head of the Mahmood Group, Khawaja Muhammad Anees, briefed the Acting President on the facility’s operations. The briefing covered the use of state-of-the-art machinery, advanced production processes, ongoing export orders, and the company”s labour welfare programs.

Khawaja Muhammad Anees informed the delegation that the group produces world-class textile goods and is committed to sustainable industrial practices through the application of modern technology. The Acting President acknowledged the group’s industrial contributions and its role in strengthening Pakistan’s overseas shipments.

Gillani lauded the private sector”s role in enhancing exports and generating employment, describing its contributions as commendable. He reiterated the government”s commitment to providing all possible facilities and fostering a conducive environment for the promotion of industry and commerce.

The event was attended by senior government officials, fellow industrialists, and other relevant authorities.
