Karachi has received its first consignment of electric vehicle (EV) production facilities and charging infrastructure from China, a significant step in a joint venture to develop EV infrastructure in Pakistan’s major urban centers. Yasser Bumbani, CEO of China’s ADM Group, handed over the charging units to Malik Khuda Bux, Chairman of the Malik Group and Convener of the FPCCI Energy Committee.
Malik Khuda Bux informed reporters that their efforts have secured a $240 million investment from the ADM Group for EV production and charging facilities in Pakistan, aiming to install 3,000 charging points nationwide. The initial EV infrastructure installation in Karachi will focus on three locations designated by Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab: KMC Headquarters, Water Board parking area on Shahrah-e-Faisal, and Dolmen Mall Clifton parking.
Bux stated that Pakistan’s improving economic conditions are attracting foreign investment again. Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah promised that if ADM Group manufactures EVs in Sindh, the provincial government will purchase over 20% of the vehicles produced at the Karachi facility. Efforts are underway to establish ADM’s joint manufacturing and charging facility in Karachi.
Confirming the arrival and commencement of licensed EV charging station installations, Bux said 35 more shipments are expected, paving the way for EV charging points in Karachi, along the M2 Motorway, and in other major cities. He highlighted their partnership with the Sindh government on EV charging and production investment, and noted the commitment of ADM Group CEO Yasser Bumbani.
On the investment front, Bux disclosed a $90 million allocation for 3,000 nationwide charging points, along with a $240 million commitment for a vehicle assembly plant, both facilitated through collaboration with the ADM Group. The target is to activate 1,000 charging points by the end of next year, while ADM will commence EV production in Pakistan by December.
