Nawabshah’s residents face a significant challenge in safeguarding their lives, homes, land, and animals from the escalating floodwaters, but they are not alone in this difficult period. First Lady of Pakistan and Member of the National Assembly Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari on Thursday urged inhabitants of at-risk areas to rigorously adhere to safety protocols and comply with any evacuation directives issued by officials. “Your lives are invaluable, and no undue peril should be undertaken when confronted with natural disasters,” she emphasized.
The First Lady made these pronouncements while surveying flood readiness locations along the S.M. Bund at Mudd Bungalow and Mudd Mangli point, where she evaluated ongoing relief and security precautions. Accompanied by Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, she examined relief centers managed by the irrigation, health, animal welfare, and Rescue 1122 departments. She also toured Meharabpur to gauge protective measures being implemented for susceptible populations.
Authorities informed her that Mudd Mangli point is a critical location where potential inundation could inflict substantial harm. To alleviate strain from the river current, the Irrigation Department has built defensive infrastructure, including T-spurs, J-spurs, and sloping studs. Construction equipment and a reserve of rocks are also stationed nearby for swift action in case of levee failures, while constant patrols guarantee continuous observation of the levee.
Rescue 1122 personnel informed her that their stations are fully furnished with vessels, life preservers, diving gear, and cords to address any contingency, while a medical facility at Mudd Bungalow is tending to approximately 80 individuals daily.
Conveying her contentment with the administration”s efforts, the First Lady stated, “I am gratified to observe that the local administration is utilizing its optimal assets and expertise to arrange for the well-being and restoration of potentially impacted populations. Efficient interdepartmental collaboration, vigilant supervision, and proactive strategizing are crucial if we are to handle this predicament effectively.’
She concluded by appealing to citizens to fully collaborate with the authorities, noting that any carelessness could worsen into a major emergency.
