First Lady Aseefa Bhutto and Chief Minister Sindh’s Visit with the World Bank

First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah visited the Nazar Muhammad Laghari village with a World Bank delegation.

During the visit, the newly constructed houses for flood victims were inspected, and property ownership certificates were distributed among women.

The World Bank delegation included Managing Director Anna Bjerde and Country Director Najy Benhassine. The MD of the World Bank met with the affected women and was also shown their handicraft work.

In the briefing given to the delegation, it was informed that 32 houses destroyed by floods in Nazar Muhammad Laghari village have been reconstructed. Aseefa Bhutto declared this project as Pakistan’s largest program that grants ownership rights to women.

Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah stated that the 2022 floods destroyed 2.1 million houses in Sindh. The initial aid of 500 million dollars from the World Bank made timely construction of houses possible. An additional 450 million dollars have been added, enabling the construction of 778,000 houses.

Murad Ali Shah further informed that out of the 450 million dollars, 54.92 million dollars have been allocated for water, sanitation, and public health. The WASH project will benefit 66,691 households in 1,000 villages.

The MD of the World Bank praised the leadership and vision of the Sindh government and committed to continued cooperation with the government.
