Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon inspected the Jam Sadiq Bridge to review the progress of the ongoing Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. Accompanied by Secretary Transport Asad Zameen and Project Director Zameer Abbasi, Memon received a briefing from engineers on the project’s advancement. He stated that efforts are underway to bring double-decker buses in August. Criticizing the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) for power outages during recent rainfall, he contrasted their performance with the city administration’s preparedness.
Memon affirmed the rapid progress of the Yellow Line BRT and Jam Sadiq Bridge construction. Emphasizing the importance of the transit system for the metropolis, he highlighted the Transport Department’s commitment to timely completion. The minister expressed confidence that the interconnected BRT network would significantly improve public transportation.
He also revealed plans to introduce double-decker buses in August, complementing existing electric vehicle (EV) initiatives, including taxis and rickshaws. Memon cited the recent introduction of the EV bus service and the intention to expand the fleet by August or September.
Acknowledging the presence of municipal officials and equipment during the torrential rains in Hyderabad, Memon pointed out HESCO’s power grid failures. He also mentioned the ongoing campaign against fake vehicle registrations, defending the strict measures despite their unpopularity and labeling objections as politically motivated.
Turning his attention to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, Memon advocated for allowing them to work within their jurisdiction. He criticized a specific political group for their hardline views, urging them to abandon their negative approach. He further recommended ignoring statements from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and suggested they focus on societal concerns.
Addressing the issue of collapsing buildings in Lyari, Memon attributed them to unauthorized constructions from the 1980s.
