Chairman Senate Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has made a compelling plea for the establishment of an inclusive and accessible society, stressing that providing equal opportunities for persons with visual impairments is a fundamental measure of true humanity. His remarks were part of a formal message commemorating White Cane Day on Wednesday.

The Chairman described the white cane as a universal emblem of courage, mobility, and independence for individuals experiencing vision loss. He articulated that it is the collective responsibility of the community and state institutions to ensure these citizens are empowered.

Gilani asserted that persons with disabilities must be supported to live with dignity and participate actively in all aspects of national life. He reaffirmed the Parliament’s steadfast commitment to protecting their rights and welfare through the enactment of progressive legislation and effective oversight.

Concluding his message, the Senate Chairman called on all segments of society to work together to foster an environment that ‘recognizes ability beyond disability.’ He advocated for a system that provides every citizen with the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the country’s development.
