Brutal Attacks Spark Outrage: Transgender Community Under Siege In Pakistan

Horrific violence against transgender individuals in Karachi has ignited condemnation from human rights advocates today, with three bodies discovered in Memon Goth on Sunday following another brutal assault on Thursday. These attacks, coupled with the reported expulsion of transgender people from the Swabi district, underscore the grave dangers faced by this marginalized community.

The Coalition for Inclusive Pakistan (CIP) has strongly denounced these acts, demanding urgent government intervention to protect transgender citizens” fundamental rights. The organization insists on swift investigations, prosecutions of perpetrators, and tangible steps to ensure community safety.

The recent incidents highlight the inadequacy of existing legal protections, such as the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2018. CIP urges both federal and provincial authorities to bolster enforcement and enact further legislation to safeguard transgender individuals.

The CIP stressed the obligation of both federal and provincial Human Rights Commissions to hold authorities responsible for ensuring the equal protection of all citizens. The coalition declared that safeguarding the transgender community is not merely a choice, but a fundamental constitutional and ethical duty.
