Bilawal Urges UN Chief to Play Role in Mitigating Rising Pakistan-India Tension

In a significant diplomatic appeal, Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has urged UN Secretary-General António Guterres to play a pivotal role in mitigating the escalating tensions between Pakistan and India.

This plea comes amidst growing concerns over the strained relations, with Bilawal emphasizing the urgency for dialogue and the restoration of the crucial Indus Waters Treaty.

During a high-stakes meeting at the UN Headquarters in New York, he stressed the importance of comprehensive negotiations concerning the Jammu and Kashmir issue, a longstanding conflict that stands as a major obstacle to enduring peace in South Asia.

The Pakistani delegation provided a detailed briefing on the humanitarian ramifications stemming from the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, alongside India”s alleged unprovoked aggression and violations of the UN Charter and international law.

Responding to these concerns, Secretary-General Guterres expressed his approval of Pakistan”s commitment to peace. He reiterated the UN”s dedication to fostering peace, encouraging restraint, and promoting diplomacy throughout the region.

Guterres assured that the United Nations remains steadfast in its support for all initiatives aimed at de-escalation and the peaceful resolution of disputes through constructive dialogue, in alignment with the principles of the UN Charter and pertinent Security Council resolutions.
