Belgium Supports Pakistan’s Human Rights, Legal Reforms

Belgium has expressed its support for Pakistan’s ongoing legal and human rights reforms, following a meeting between Belgian Ambassador Idesbald Van der Gracht and Federal Minister for Law and Justice and Human Rights, Azam Nazeer Tarar.

The two dignitaries conferred on advancements in Pakistan”s justice system and protections for human rights. Minister Tarar highlighted recent legislative changes, including modifications to the Criminal Procedure Code designed to enhance judicial processes, and the implementation of the ICT Child Marriage Restraint Act of 2025.

He also addressed the Global Gender Gap Report 2025, acknowledging data collection deficiencies and outlining ongoing consultations to rectify these issues. The potential reformation of capital punishment regulations was also a topic of discussion.

Ambassador Van der Gracht commended Pakistan”s legal strides, particularly the Minority Rights Commission Act, and pledged Belgium’s backing for the nation”s continuing democratic and human rights endeavors.
