Belgian Envoy, Senate Advisor Discuss Boosting Parliamentary Cooperation

Advisor to the Chairman Senate, Ms. Misbah Khar, met with Belgian Ambassador Mr. Charles-Idesbald van der Gracht de Rommerswael on Tuesday to discuss strengthening legislative partnerships and participation in future international gatherings.

Ms. Khar outlined the aims of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), a new worldwide assembly of 45 parliamentary leaders established to foster dialogue and interconnectedness.

She informed the ambassador that Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani was recently chosen unopposed as the ISC’s first president during elections in Malaysia, highlighting Pakistan’s expanding influence in global parliamentary diplomacy.

The Belgian representative was updated on arrangements for the upcoming ISC session, planned for November 11-12, 2025, in Islamabad. Conversations encompassed the conference schedule, planned discussions, and central subjects such as peace, international collaboration, and sustainable growth.

Ms. Khar stressed that the assembly would provide a crucial platform for devising workable solutions to mutual difficulties. Both officials reiterated their dedication to bolstering legislative relations and fostering person-to-person exchanges between Pakistan and Belgium. Senior Director General (Protocol) Mr. Tariq bin Waheed was also present.
