Anti-Corruption Court orders release of Haleem

KARACHI: An Anti-Corruption Court (ACC) in Karachi Thursday ordered the release of Opposition Leader in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh in a property documents case.

According to details, the anti-corruption court ordered relevant authorities to release Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Haleem Adil Sheikh in a case related to land transaction in Malir district of Karachi. The court also ordered the Sindh Opposition Leader to submit a surety bond of Rs50,000.

It is pertinent to mention here that Haleem went to an anti-corruption court in Jamshoro yesterday, however, the ACE team arrested him from outside the premises. He was later shifted to Karachi by the anti-corruption establishment (ACE) team and lodged a land case against him.

He was shifted to Aziz Bhatti police station in Karachi by the ACE team on Wednesday. Earlier, Haleem also appeared before the provincial anti-corruption court to defend the allegations of raising a loan from a bank on the basis of fake property documents.

Earlier, during the hearing, Haleem’s counsel, Advocate Javed Altaf maintained that Sindh High Court has barred the police to arrest Haleem Adil Sheikh. He maintained that the case is 33 years old and it is merely a political victimization. On the other hand, the Sindh High Court has issued notices to Chief Secretary and Anti-Corruption officials on a contempt of Court plea submitted by Haleem Adil Sheikh and sought a reply by August 4.
