Ample petroleum reserves in the country, nationwide crackdown launched against illegal hoarding of petroleum products

Due to the current regional situation, the Government of Pakistan has launched a strict nationwide operation against the illegal hoarding of petroleum products, and has threatened violators with serious legal consequences.

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) today assured the public that there are ample petroleum reserves in the country, and stated that the current stocks are fully sufficient to meet the national demand.

Citizens have been urged to ignore rumors and refrain from panic buying or hoarding fuel unnecessarily.

To counter illegal profiteering attempts, all provincial Chief Secretaries have been directed to mobilize Deputy Commissioners in their respective districts. These officers have been tasked with conducting inspections and sealing any premises found to be illegally storing petroleum.

The official statement clarified that strict legal action will be taken against any individual or entity storing fuel at unauthorized locations, specifically defining these as any place other than licensed oil depots or the retail outlets of Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs).

According to spokesman Imran Ghaznavi, additionally, OGRA’s own field teams are actively monitoring stock levels at depots and petrol stations to maintain a smooth supply chain and prevent any irregularities.
