Ambassador Misbah Khar, serving as the Advisor to the Chairman Senate, held a significant meeting with Mr. Rongvudhi Virabutr, the Thai Ambassador to Pakistan, at the Thai Embassy in Islamabad on Wednesday. The dialogue centered on the urgent need to bolster women’s empowerment and leadership roles globally, a pressing issue highlighted by Ambassador Khar.

The discussions unfolded with Ambassador Khar briefing the Thai envoy about the newly launched Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference (ISC), a forum aimed at enhancing dialogue amongst global legislatures. Notably, Pakistan’s Chairman Senate, Yousuf Raza Gillani, was unanimously elected as the first President of the ISC following recent elections in Malaysia.

Ambassador Khar extended a formal invitation to the Thai Speaker of Parliament for the upcoming ISC session in Islamabad on November 11-12, 2025. The session will focus on “Peace, Security and Development.”

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing women’s roles in leadership. Ambassador Khar emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to promoting female participation in decision-making processes and highlighted the ISC’s potential role in amplifying women’s voices in parliamentary diplomacy.

Mr. Virabutr expressed his support for initiatives empowering women and welcomed Pakistan’s efforts in this domain. Ambassador Khar reassured him of Pakistan’s unwavering support for this shared objective and stressed the importance of international platforms like the ISC in providing sustainable opportunities for women, particularly those facing suppression.

The Thai Ambassador commended Pakistan’s legislative efforts to advance women’s empowerment and vowed to encourage greater initiatives in this field. Ambassador Khar reiterated her commitment to collaborating closely on initiatives that promote both parliamentary cooperation and gender equality, signaling a strong bilateral commitment towards these goals.
