22 killed, 50 injured as blast rocks JUI-F convention near Bajaur

BAJAUR:At least 22 people were killed and 50 others injured on Sunday in an explosion targeting the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) workers’ convention in Bajaur’s Khar area. Rescue 1122 spokesperson Bilal Faizi said that five ambulances had reached the spot. He added that so far, around 50 injured people had been shifted to the hospital. MNA Jamaluddin and former senator Abdur Rasheed were also present at the JUI-F workers’ convention. JUI-F provincial spokesperson Jalil Jan confirmed that Jamaluddin was safe after the blast.

JUI-F general secretary Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri had condemned the blast. “A blast targeting a public gathering is well-planned to create unrest in the country. We have always done politics of peace,” he added. Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari condemned the blast that targeted the workers’ convention of JUI-F.

Expressing his grief and sorrow, Bhutto-Zardari vowed to bring those responsible for the blast to justice. He further said that there was an urgent need to get rid of those preparing for terrorism. The PTI Karachi chapter had condemned the blast that targeted the JUI (F) workers’ convention. The party had urged the local government to provide the best medical facilities for the injured.
