Karachi: Administrator Karachi Barrister Murtaza said that the establishment of chest pain unit of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases would provide better facilities to the residents of Central District.
“We will make Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases an ideal medical institution,” the Administrator expressed these views while talking to media persons after inaugurating the chest pain unit under NICVD at Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases (KIHD) on Friday.
Deputy Commissioner Central Taha Saleem, Metropolitan Commissioner Syed Afzal Zaidi, Senior Director Medical and Health Services Dr Abdul Hameed Jamani, Municipal Commissioner Central Khalid Riaz, Executive Director Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases Dr Rifat Sultana and other officials were also present on the occasion.
Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that it is a great pleasure to have a chest pain unit at Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases.
“The chest pain unit will operate round the clock and provide medical facilities to patients without any discrimination. The chest pain unit is attached to the NICVD so the patient can be transferred to the NICVD for further treatment after providing first aid,” he added.
He said that 22nd Chest Pain Unit has been set up in Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases under NICVD and the administration of KMC.
He said that chest pain units have also been set up in other districts of Sindh while 17 chest pain units have been set up at different places in Karachi so far.
The Sindh government has set up these chest pain units on major highways in collaboration with NICVD.
Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that heart diseases are fatal, adding that chest pain units will also be set up in other areas of Karachi. “We want that people who have to go to NICVD for surgery also not to go there and by providing this facility at a nearby place,” he added.
He said that it is difficult to reach NICVD from Liaquatabad in Karachi. With the establishment of this unit, patients suffering from heart diseases will get quick medical aid and valuable time will be saved.
He said that not only patients with heart disease will be examined but also facilities for surgery will be provided.
He said that satellite centers are running in Sukkur, Larkana and Hyderabad. Similarly, the unit at Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases will be upgraded to Satellite Centers. So far, NICVD has provided free medical aid to 6.5 million patients.
He said that investigation was being carried out against ghost employees in KMC and action would be taken against them.
On this occasion, Administrator Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab visited Chest Pain Ward at Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases and reviewed the facilities provided to the patients. He also issued necessary instructions to the concerned officers.
