JI moves SC to investigate Pakistanis involved in Pandora Papers

ISLAMABAD : The Jamaat-e-Islami on Monday filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking probe and action against those whose names have listed in the Pandora Papers.

JI chief Sirajul Haq filed the petition in the apex court, stating that Pandora Papers were a continuation of the Panama Leaks and the names of Pakistanis had appeared in the Pandora Papers, therefore action should be taken against those who have looted national wealth. Haq filed the miscellaneous application in the Panama leaks case, requesting the top court to investigate people who own offshore properties.

Speaking outside the SC, the JI chief said 700 Pakistani nationals had been listed in the Pandora Papers. He recalled that the JI was the first party which had also moved the court against Panama Papers while PTI had filed a petition later but Imran Khan only targeted Nawaz Sharif. He said they wanted action against all involved in the Pandora Papers.

It may be noted that the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists ICIJ in October unveiled Pandora Papers, a major international research into the financial secrets held by high-profile individuals around the world.

It also named Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, Senator Faisal Vawda, PML-Q leader Chaudhry Moonis Elahi, Ishaq Dar’s son, PPP’s Sharjeel Memon, the family of Minister for Industries and Production Khusro Bakhtiar, PTI leader Abdul Aleem Khan, Axact CEO Shoaib Sheikh and other 700 Pakistanis.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Imran Khan in October had formed a high-level investigation cell under Prime Minister’s Inspection Commission to probe all Pakistanis named in the Pandora Papers leaks.
