ISLAMABAD: Former chief judge of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Rana Shamim on Monday submitted his original affidavit in the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

In his affidavit, which was leaked and published in The News about a month ago, Rana Shamim had reportedly accused former chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar of collusion to deny bails to top PML-N leadership prior to the 2018 general elections. During today’s (Monday) hearing, the court was informed that Attorney General for Pakistan Khalid Jawed Khan was hospitalized and would return by Thursday.

Lateef Afridi, counsel for Rana Shamim, apprised the court that he had submitted the original and sealed affidavit of his client with the court. He stated that his client was standing by his affidavit and statement from the day first.

To a query by the IHC chief justice Athar Minallah, Lateef Afridi stated that the submitted affidavit was original and sealed and it was brought to Pakistan from London in compliance with the court orders.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah said the sealed envelope was in its original condition and had not been opened by the court yet. He said it would be opened in the presence of Attorney General for Pakistan on next hearing. Meanwhile, the court adjourned the hearing until December 28.
