Vegetables Top Pakistani Dinner Plates, Reveals Survey

Almost half of Pakistani families (47%) prepared vegetables the day prior to a recent survey, according to Gallup and Gilani Pakistan. Lentils were the second most popular dish, gracing 24% of tables, followed by meat or chicken at 21%.

Rice or pilaf appeared in 15% of homes. A small fraction of respondents (3%) stated that they had not prepared any food the previous day, while 5% did not give a definitive answer or were uncertain.

The study queried a nationally representative group of adult men and women with the question, ‘What was prepared in your home yesterday?’. This yielded the aforementioned results.

Urban and rural dietary preferences showed some variation. City dwellers consumed more meat and chicken (26%), while those in rural areas favored lentils (28%).

Conducted between March 7 and March 22, 2025, the survey encompassed 779 participants across urban and rural regions in all four provinces. Gallup and Gilani Pakistan, affiliated with Gallup International, executed the research using telephone interviews (CATI). The margin of error is estimated at ± 2-3 percent with a 95% confidence level. The data source is the Gilani Research Foundation.
